How to replace an Excursion XB VTA1005XB touchscreen?

Mine survived being dropped on stone outdoors but not on a hardwood floor indoors. The touchscreen shattered, but the tablet appears to work in all other respects. I'd like to repair it if I can. Has anyone replaced the touchscreen, is it easy or difficult, is there anything in particular to watch out for, perhaps the SD card eject mechanism falls apart if you look at it funny?
I had an earlier Excursion running Windows H8, but the update to H8.1 b0rked the drivers, then the power button wore out. An attempt to fix that caused parts of the SD slot to fly across the room!
